Senate Update

This year has been a rollercoaster for Student Senate. Now, the newly elected senators have been sworn in and are ready to represent in the fall.
Some major issues were tackled this year within in the walls of the McAllister Boardroom.
From the Student Affairs Committee came the “Pioneer Spirit Award.” This award was designed to honor a faculty or staff member in the Carroll College community. The motion to create such an award passed unanimously and will now be an annual award.
The Academic Affairs Committee has been busy as well. During the first semester, the Tech Lab hours were extended until 3:00am on weekdays. Second semester, Academic Affairs moved forward with a proposal to create a new course evaluation and to implement a new procedure for administering the evaluations at the end of the semester.
At the Assembly Meeting on April 14, 2008, faculty also displayed concerns about the fact that the course evaluations do not provide enough space for students to provide adequate responses.
Academic Affairs is also working and will continue to work to inform the students on possible name change to Carroll University.
On April 23, 2008, a convocation point in the form of a debate was hosted by Student Senate to inform students, faculty, staff and community members about the components that would most effect the community, should Carroll College become Carroll University.
In addition to wrapping a great year, Senate proposed to the student body a “Summer Senate” to address the issues that will arise over the summer. Students will still be able to contact Student Senate over the summer at ccsenate@cc.edu.
