Final thoughts from the President!

It’s hard for me to believe that this year, this incredibly crazy year, is coming to an end.

It’s even harder for me to believe that I will be a senior and I will no longer have to be neutral. I am ever grateful for my time as president, but even more thankful for the thirty senators that made everything possible, and I must give credit where credit is due.

As Carroll is amidst new leadership, progress, and positive change, Senate has also been on that same track. I am honored to be a part of a group that held emergency meetings and wrote a resolution that, in turn, helped create a safety task force. A group that hosted a successful CC vs. CU debate, proposed different course evaluations, and extended tech lab hours (thank you, Academic Affairs). I would like to thank Senate and Student Affairs for passing the Pioneer Spirit Award to honor a faculty or staff member and an ice cream social to gather student concerns. I am grateful for the finance committee for taking care of budget requests and budget hearings. It’s important to recognize all the organizations who were patient enough to wait until new business to see if Senate approved their requests for conferences, speakers, and awesome events such as Relay, the AIDS awareness fashion show, and IEC’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

I’d like to personally thank Senate for a year of internal growth. I know no one signed up to spend four hours in the boardroom every Sunday night, but your hard work and commitment has paid off. As a Senate you challenged each other, pushed each other, and in the end, learned how to respect each other and everyone who may enter the boardroom. I never thought I would be so emotionally invested in a group of people or a college. I never thought it would be so hard to remain neutral, calm, and to understand parliamentary procedure. I am beyond excited to work with a new group of people, make motions, vote, and continue to grow and learn. Thank you Senate of 2007-2008.
