Looking great at quarter to eight

Let’s be honest, most of us barely make it to our 8:00am classes, and in our early morning daze, grabbing a coffee takes precedent over changing out of your pajamas.

But it doesn’t have to be that way, ladies and gents.

These simple suggestions will allow you to look great at a quarter to eight, while still giving you enough time to grab that latte.

Ladies, although they may be comfortable, sweatpants and a baggy sweatshirt are not flattering on anyone. Other options exist that provide the same amount of comfort, while creating a more polished look.

A classic pair of dark jeans is the first ingredient in any casual, but polished, look. It takes just as much effort to throw on sweatpants, and with the variety of fits and washes on the market, you don’t need to sacrifice comfort for style.

Gap jeans are always a great choice if you are looking for something trendy, comfortable and have a dispensable budget.

“Gap offers a wide variety of jeans for every body shape. All of the jeans are extremely comfortable, even the high-waisted jeans, which are very ‘in’ right now,” said Rachel, a Gap sales associate.

On a budget? Check out American Eagle’s Boyfriend Jean, currently on sale for $25. The dark wash creates a classic silhouette, and the roomy fit gives all the comfort of a sweat pant.

Top-wise, simple is always better when putting together a quick, but stylish look. Bright, vibrant t-shirts or sweaters are great with jeans, especially for this spring.

“A pair of skinny jeans, a colorful t-shirt and a great pair of flats or flip flops, is the best outfit to wear to an early class this season,” said Kentora, an H & M sales associate.

“I think one way to look great for an early class is to wear a colorful tank top, layered over a henely or polo, and high-waisted, or even baggy jeans for comfort,” said Erinn Maine Kraus, a Carroll senior and Aeropostale associate.

If you insist on sweat pants, try to look for styles with more feminine fits.

The P.I.N.K. brand sweatpants from Victoria’s Secret are always popular. Pair the bright pants with a solid t-shirt and flip-flops for an ultra-casual look.

Yoga pants are big this season. They provide the look of a classic black pant, with the comfort of sweats.

On a budget? Target has a great selection of athletic wear, with most of their styles costing under $20.

Don’t forget about a little makeup, even if you are running late for class. A quick makeup application is crucial for a natural and beautiful glow.

Try Pür Minerals: its famous 4-in-1 kit makes the natural makeup easy to apply and is great for the face. A little eyeliner and lip-gloss goes a long way.

No time? Try a pair of big sunglasses and some lip gloss for that low maintenance look.

“When I’m getting ready for an 8:00am class, I always have coffee so I don’t look dead. I also never forget about makeup, so I don’t scare people,” said senior Shannon Seely.

Guys, looking great at quarter to eight is just as important and easy as it is for the ladies.

Again, it’s all about the jeans and t-shirt. Try cool, dark-washed jeans to appear slimmer and trendier. A colorful graphic tee from Express, or a simple oxford or polo from Banana Republic.

Stores like American Eagle, Old Navy and H&M provide the same options at half the price.

“I love to throw on simple pieces, like jeans and a t-shirt for 8:00am classes,” said sophomore James Wankowski.

Pair that look with cool shoes, such as timeless Converse Chuck Tailors, which come in a variety of styles and colors.

Spraying cologne on your pressure points will keep you smelling fresh if you don’t have time for a shower.

Not only will women notice your wardrobe, but your pleasant smell will be an unexpected surprise in any early morning class. Test Acqua Di Gio by Giorgio Armani, or Black by Kenneth Cole for a fantastic, clean scent.

Remember to keep these tips in mind during finals week, when taking an hour to get ready is the last thing on your mind.
